Group Exercise - Open Discussion / 10 min Blog
1. One student presents 3D design concept to the class – 2 min
1. One student presents 3D design concept to the class – 2 min
Sunita presented her idea on her Traditional Timor house sculpture.Here are the main points she discussed;
- Needs have 4 stumps not sure what to make that out of.
- Thinking of using the polystyrene for the body of the house then cover it glue … ill have to find a glue that doesn’t eat into it… then cover it with sticks or straw.
- Roof will be hard to make because it is shaped like triangular prism but no point on the top. Size un-decided but probably close to base 15 cm wide and height about 20cm.
- Will need to use sharp knife to cut polystyrene so it doesn’t flake.
Maha then presented her idea on her print for lamp shade. Here are the main points she discussed;
- Changed to suit any room of the house.
- A stand-alone lamp, one that sits on a desk or one that can be hung from the wall or ceiling.
- Make sure the materials used wont come into contact with the bulb or heat up to become a fire hazard.
- We also discussed how we would apply and fasten each lamp shade whether it pops in or slides in etc.
4. All students blog your observations – 10 mins
Practical – Design challenge / reflect & refine
30 mins – Choose your most recent 3D design concept from all your current works
I am thinking of doing my 3D design project on interior decorations such as pillows, lamp shades, wall paintings, etc.
- In your blog make a list of 2 assumptions about your design
1. The items created will suit each other in theme and colors and that they will compliment each other.
2. I will have enough time set out for each task to design and produce.
- Challenge both of these assumptions (200 words minimum)
My first assumption is that all my pieces will compliment each other so that they can be attractively displayed at the exhibition. In order to achieve this assumption, research needs to take place. Finding out latest trends and favorite themes. Once my grounding research is complete and the main theme is decided on then the design process can begin.
My second assumption is that I have enough time to complete each task. I need to make sure I have an idea of how I want to present my exhibit. For example; my red chair from home with two designed pillows, a designed floor lamp and one wall picture or wall paper. Once the idea is in my head I need to sketch it and see it visually. I need to see if it looks too much or if it is too much to make on time. After this decision is made I need to begin on the most important task. Leaving the least to the last incase there isn’t enough time. The tasks also need to broken down into smaller tasks. Using diaries, checklists, etc will help to keep organized and focused.
- Illustrate your thoughts with sketches / diagrams
Above is an image I created in Illustrator using the pen tool.
This is an idea of how my project could look like. I love it :)
Research
Below are some images of interior decorations that I like. I would like to create the pattern for the cushions and then create the design of the cushion, whether it be simple like image 1 or complex like image 3 with the roses.

Great blog - covered everything except:
ReplyDeleteIllustrate your thoughts with sketches / diagrams
If you could revisit this when you get the sketches done it's a go!
Still waiting on the sketches.....
