PRACTICAL – Design Choices
40 mins – Create a background design for your blog
- Use any tools you wish
- Put the results and a paragraph of description in blog
- Address these 3 points of difference in both designs
o Shape
o Media
o Style
In today's class we had to design the background for our blog that in cooperates the three elements of shape, media and style. I got inspiration from the web from a collection of retro images. Here is an example;

I found that most retro images had a consistency of bright color in repetitive lines or shapes such as circles and stars. The shapes almost look like they have burst into an explosion of color. I like the retro theme as it has a fun and bright look which is what I would love to portray through my blog.

The Process
I created this background in Photoshop because it has the gradient tool, which allowed me to create the spiral circles. I also used the rectangle tool to form the rectangles and the circle tool to form the circles. It was fairly simple to make.
The three elements
Shape: The whole design is a collection of bright coloured shapes to create the overall retro theme.
Media: The background I created communicates the idea of design through the fun and vibrant tone that I associate with design.
Style: The style of my background is retro.
For my other blog I had a fiddle in illustrator, creating swirls and i came up with this..
This is how it turned out. I like the random shapes it came up with and the bright colours which relates to my other blog but is different in style. This is more abstract, where as the other is retro.

I decided it was too complicated and played around by adjusting the stroke levels.

Very good first effort here Rachel. I love your designs - great vibrant colours and an excellent sense of composition and form. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteHave a look at the Task sheet and make sure you are covering all bases. Good start.
