Warwick
Warwick's concept is coming along strong. He is pretty much complete and is just paying attention to details and how hes going to present.

Sunita
Sunitas work is coming along strong. She showed us images of her hut coming together.

Josie
Josies design is coming along as well. She just has to wait on the back to be cut out. Her design is done and ready.

Billie
Billie is the same and is waiting on getting her tree cut out. The idea is finalised and all materials purchased but is just waiting on final jobs.

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation
20 mins – Develop 3D Exhibition Designs / 5 mins Blog

Experimenting

I experimented with the different wires, hanging the chandelier base to the shower frame.

The beginnings

Here is a test of a series of collaboration of clear and pearl globes. I also
shines my phone light to experiment with how it will light up. The quite globes look cool lit up but the clear looks good too.

I think I prefer the clear globes together. They appear to be more crystal like.

GROUP EXERCISE – Presenting Your Portfolio

PART 1 – 20 mins
Each student presents their exhibition portfolio to the class

PART 2 - 10 mins Blog
Each student post feedback on all other students in your blog

(Minimum of 50 words blogging on each student)

After we soughed out the invitations we then presented to the class our 2D and 3D Designs so far.

We then had to post feedback on all other students in our blog with a minimum of 50 words.
I presented my ideas to the class and concluded that I am doing the chandelier for my 3D design. I am running a little behind because I have been away for two weeks and have been on standby. So my idea is to get cracking on the chandelier. And the chickens is my 2D Design which is pretty much done. I just need to focus on the presentation.

Sunita:
Sunita is organised and her work is coming together smoothly. Her organization has worked in her favor and her artwork is coming together great. She has a strong 3D design of the Timor hut and the printouts for her 2D designs look great. I think now all she has to do is focus on how she is going to present both artworks in the most effective way.

Billie:
Billie’s artwork is also good. She explained that she is still figuring out how to bring it together and still weighing out the pros and cons. It is coming together great and will look really good once complete and on the wall.

Josie:
Josie presented her 3D Design of her plark of her logo framed in the modern design office. She explained how it’s coming together with the steps she is taking, the costs, etc. I think it will look really good. She is also going to have her portfolio displayed on the front desk of the office.

Warwick:
Warwick’s 3D Design is pretty much complete. He is just thinking of ways to enhance it such as adding fake grass, etc.  I suggested adding a ornament/ sculpture, even making a vase of flowers made from the irrigation materials would be heaps cool. Just to give it the extra creative look.

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation
30 mins – Develop 2D Exhibition Designs / 10 mins Blog

I bought a frame for my 2D Design which is large white detailed frame. I wanted to find out the measurements then apply them to my image for Damo to print ready to frame. Below is a picture of the latest version. Because the frame is rectangular I will need to maybe cut some out and expand the size of each chicken.

 Video Commentary
I watched this video to get inspiration and to find out some techniques on how to create cartoons. I really like how they created shadows on the image to make it appear 3D. It is a fast version screen view of the illustrator creating it but I got the idea of how they did it. I would like to consider applying this effect to my chicken to see how it looks.

Week 11 3D Design

GROUP EXERCISE – Concept Evaluation
Giving feedback on the effectiveness of your design process and concept communication

PART 1 – 20 mins

Students present 3D exhibition designs and explain progress in the last week The GROUP gives verbal feedback on:

1.  Effectiveness of design process

2.  Effectiveness of concept communication
3.  Progress in the last week

My assessments

Effectivness of design process

Sunita = 9
Warwick = 7
Billie = 7
Josie = 8

Effectivness of concept communication
Sunita = 7

Warwick = 8

Billie = 7

Josie =8

Sunita
My progress for the past week included experimenting and finding different materials that could work for the style of rood I want on my traditional house. Also thinking about how I want to place my half house on the wall.

Josie
My progress is somewhat slowing to a halt.
Lettering: My Materials are there but I wont get the MDF for the lettering until sometime this week and from there it will go to the laser cutters.

Circles: Unfortunately I cant use Perspex so I’m going to use acetate and cut the circles out with a compass Blade.

Warwick
I have researched the different types of artificial grass to use as a base for my Irrigation Coffee table. Josie informed me that Bunnings had fake grass sold by the metre so I went on their website and looked at the different types available. Its roughly $30/m for the base grade stuff so I might need a couple of metres. I need to go in and check it out.

Myself
My progress so far is I have worked out what the best solutions are and I have worked out how it is going to be displayed. Due to being on holidays i couldn't purchase light bulbs and experiment due to moving around and spare time. So below is the progress I have made in how my exhibit is going to look. Here is an illustration with further details below.

PART 2 - 10 mins

Blog Each student post feedback on all other students in your blog

I have a red chair already at home. I can get the graphics printed by Damo in maybe a large sticker. I will have to think about shiny or mat textures. I would like to have a plinth to display my portfolio on and my business card. I would like to keep it fresh and modern.

Youtube Video

Video Commentary
Above is a video I found on helpful tips on cheap decorating elements for your living room. Sometimes modern can be dull in character so I thought maybe I could spice it up with some of these tips. Simply adding some bright colored books beside the chair  for colour and for customers use while waiting, a plant for a splash of green, maybe even a rug to make it more cozy, comfortable and personal.

My materials

Here are some materials I have purchased.

About 25 light bulbs in total of different shapes, sizes and some clear and some pearl. I need another 50 or so though. But I thought I would stick with these and experiment with the different globes together. Seeing if they match or whether all the same will be better.

I purchased a range of wires to test out which ones are more effective. I found that the thinnest craft wire was more effective and easier to bend and secure the globe. The thicker wires were harder to bend. I also tried string which looked better but was more delicate and fragile.

PART 2 - 10 mins

Blog Each student post feedback on all other students in your blog

Sunita
In the past week I have made touch ups and modifications to my images. They have been put into appropriate format and have been handed over to Damien to print on the beast printer with semi gloss paper. Also I have researched framing companies that I can call to get quotes on having the prints applied to MDF and framed.

Josie
My progress hasn’t moved so much as my design is final therefore all I have been doing is scrounging up materials for my 3D components and refining my logo lettering. I cant complete my logo as I want the materials I use for the 3D aspect to look the same as my 2D logo. Once I complete the 3D component then I shall finish the logo.

Warwick
Once upon a time there was a boy who saved all his work and then one day a File Pirate came along and stole his Ai file. A i Captain!
On a serious note I did lost my Ai file for my MB Logo for 2D Design but I re-created it and added a couple of different types of grass. One using typical grass modified from google images and the second one was with Josie helping me to create a custom grass brush tool in photshop then dropped it into my new Ai file logo. It still looks a bit busy so I may have to simplify it to a few blades of grass so it can print. Lucky the Pirate didn’t find the treasure which was on my Gold USB stick! ARRRR!!

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation

My progression
I have done a 360 on my design unfortunately. But its not too late! and I believe this idea will be more effective. I have chosen to go with illustrations of cartoon chickens. I believe it is effective because people are attracted to individuality for example the Beany Kids and the new coke bottle labels. Everyone seems to go crazy over things that are individualized and they can relate to personally. I think I am on the right track now and will enjoy doing this a lot more. In terms of progress I have made a backward step but I am progressing rapidly in the new idea because I enjoy doing it! :)

Here is an example of the craze of these individual coke bottles. They are shared all over Facebook, some with two names together. Even people posing with them.

Here is a picture of the Beany kids that people often buy for gifts. For example best mum, etc. Some people craze about it and collect them like in the image below.

I find it quite interesting how people obsess over these things and believe it would be a good market to get into :)
